The Tularam Bhagavata Purana Series

Krishna quells the serpent Kaliya.jpg

This virtual exhibit brings together dispersed folios of the Tularam Bhagavata Purana series. Named after Tularam, a collector from Delhi, these folios from mid to late 17th century Gujarat represent events from the tenth book of the Bhagavata Purana. Originally known to be seventy in number, we have brought together forty-two of these folios. A key characteristic of these fascinating paintings is the freedom of expression evident in the style of rendering, possibly being the work of several artists.
