Paratext

An incomplete inscription on the top border is a description of the scene unfolding in the painting.
The inscription seems to start with the number 24 but that is probably the last two syllabes of a word cut off . A loose translation: After disembarking from an elephant, he touched Shri Gopala's feet and Shri Gopala blessed him (patted him on the back) and let him go .
